Case Study 3 - Restaurant

Activity: Small family run restaurant.
Size: 2 staff (owner/operators) + casual.
Electricity use per year: Approx £7,000.
Specific Issues: Costs had increased by more than expected. Owners suspected a chilling unit was not working correctly, could we verify and help them understand the cost implications if faulty.
Other relevant Information: None.

Approach:
1/  24 hour data collection of electricity usage for a typical day.
2/  Work with the client to gain further information about suspected failing chilling unit.

Results:
The 24 hour test produced the following results:

The position of the graph indicated there was more than one chiller likely to be operating incorrectly. Using additional equipment, we quickly identified 3 chilling units that were functioning at 100% power at all times and not reaching the desired temperatures.

The estimated cost to the business of these faulty units is around £800 per year.

The client has fixed or replaced the units. The client has told us that their bills have reduced noticably and we are currently awaiting an accurate savings figure.
